I am a proud and life-long resident of Fairfield City. I was born in the old Fairfield Hospital and grew up in Canley Vale, where I have lived my whole life. My parents migrated to Australia from the Middle East over forty years ago to seek a better life. I received both my primary and secondary education locally, attending Canley Vale Public School and Canley Vale High School.
I became a member of the Liberal Party of Australia in 2001 and have contributed energetically to a range of positions within the Liberal Party. I joined the Liberal Party because the Liberal Party is a party of initiative and enterprise, valuing the importance of the family, individual freedom and private enterprise while caring for those in need. I am also involved with a number of local community groups.
At the University of Technology, Sydney I had an extensive and successful involvement with student politics having been elected to the Student Representative Council, Academic and Faculty Boards and as a delegate to the National Union of Students. I was one of the founding members of ACCESS, the youth wing of the Australian Institute of International Affairs, the peak non-government international relations group in Australia.
I enjoy reading about Australian history and in particular about our involvement in World War 1 and World War 2. Because of that interest I decided to take part in a personal pilgrimage in July 2008, when I successfully completed the gruelling Kokoda Trail to honour the Australian’s who fought and died there during the Second World War.
I am the youngest of the serving Councillors for 2008-2012. Since my election in September 2008, I have lobbied for more youth services in the Fairfield CBD, more car parking in the Cabramatta and Fairfield Town Centers, making Council more accountable and transparent to the ratepayers and for the approval of a memorial plaque to commemorate Assyrian and Australian service personnel who fought together during both World Wars.
As a Liberal Councillor on Fairfield City Council for the Fairfield Ward, I represent the suburbs of Carramar, Fairfield, Fairfield East, Fairfield Heights, Fairfield West, Old Guildford, Smithfield, Villawood, Wetherill Park and Yennora.
I am a member of the Services Committee, the Fairfield Town Centre Committee and I was a member of the Youth Advisory Committee until recently. I have so far enjoyed my short experience on Fairfield City Council and the opportunity to be in a position to assist local residents with solving their council related problems.
I am currently employed as a Researcher with the Hon. Charlie Lynn MLC, who is the Liberal Party’s representative in South Western Sydney, a position I have held since November 2006. Being a researcher with a State Member of Parliament has provided me with a greater level of insight into the day to day running of our State and experience in dealing with constituents.
I am completely committed to our community and what I would like to achieve most in my current term on Council is a revitalisation of the Fairfield Town Centre. My other primary goal is to engage and involve the residents of Fairfield in the processes of Council and to make Fairfield City Council the most democratic and transparent Council in New South Wales.
